More conservative than a crown, inlays and onlays are an excellent treatment option to restore a tooth that has suffered moderate damage or decay. Unlike traditional fillings, Inlays and onlays are created outside of the tooth and then bonded to the surface of the tooth. Therefore, they are also known as indirect fillings. Unlike standard fillings which can sometimes weaken a tooth, inlays and onlays actually strengthen the tooth structure.
An inlay is used when the damage to the tooth structure is all within the points of the tooth. When the damage covers more of the chewing surface including at least one of the points, an onlay is used. Both inlays and onlays are custom-made to match your natural tooth color and are virtually invisible.
At Casey Family Dental, we are proud of our ability to create comfortable, natural-looking restorations. If you would like to learn more about inlays and onlays, contact us today at (509) 293-5511.
